Celebrate Scandinavian Heritage at Gammel Dag

Join us for Gammel Dag, a vibrant celebration of Peterson's Scandinavian roots. We offer various opportunities for involvement, including parade entries, vendor booths, and artist gigs. Each role is crucial in bringing this beloved event to life, providing a platform for community engagement and celebration.

​Event Overview: Saturday, June 22, 2024

Gammel Dag 2024 runs from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, starting with a parade on Main Street and ending with a band concert at the Historic Band Stand. 

• Parade Participants are asked to line up by 9:30 AM and will be directed to the north county lot to line up unless you must be at the beginning of the parade, such as police, fire, etc. We will accept last-minute entries, and the parade entries will not be judged.
• Folk Artists and Vendors are asked to arrive by 9:00 AM at City Hall (118 Fillmore Street) to check in and set up. A staff member in a yellow shirt will guide you to your location and provide an information packet. Please specify your table and chair needs for your 12' by 12' canopy setup. For assistance during the event, visit the Information Center at City Hall or call 507-429-2464. You may start wrapping up your booths around 2:45 PM while the band is setting up for the 3:00 PM concert.

​Opportunities and Criteria for Participation

Scandinavian Folk Artists

We seek artists passionate about traditional Scandinavian art forms, willing to teach, explain, and share their finished projects to encourage exploration of their art medium. This is a unique opportunity to ignite the interest of attendees, especially youth, in traditional arts like needlework, carving, and weaving. We provide a space for you to demonstrate your craft and interact with the community. Paid positions available. Folk Artists must have references from folk art schools or other skilled artisans. We look for a wide variety of art forms unique to Scandinavia, and each artist should be demonstrating a different art form to keep our event interesting. Demonstrating traditional foods of the region is encouraged if baked, and we hope participants are allowed to buy or just taste the item being demonstrated.

Vendors & Entertainers

Enhance the festival with your unique products or services. Whether it's food, crafts, or entertainment, your contribution adds to the festivity. A $25 entry fee is required.
