Building a Brighter Future: The Transformative Initiatives of Friends of Peterson
Since its inception, Friends of Peterson (FOPMN) started on a journey to enhance the quality of life in Peterson, Minnesota, through a series of varied initiatives. Moving beyond the revival of Gammel Dag Fest, FOP has brought together community spirit, grants, and partnerships to launch projects that have significantly contributed to the town's cultural, recreational, and aesthetic appeal.

Erickson Memorial & Veterans' Garden: A Tribute to Service
A tribute to John Erickson, the Veterans' Memorial Garden is our way of saying “Thank You” to those who've served, providing a peaceful spot for reflection and community appreciation. Built with help from Sentence to Serve, volunteers and the Peterson American Legion Post 526, this garden, scheduled to be completed in 2024, is a symbol of our respect and gratitude.

The Role of Grants, Donations, and Other Resources
The work we've accomplished as Friends of Peterson has been possible thanks to a smart approach to funding and the help of many skilled people around us, including the efforts of those in Fillmore County’s Sentence to Serve Program. By looking for grants and donations and working with a variety of talented individuals, Friends of Peterson has managed to fund important projects without using city taxes. This way of doing things has allowed us to tackle projects that might have been unfeasible otherwise, showing how creativity and combined support can achieve our goals.
Looking Towards the Future
Friends of Peterson’s journey shows what’s possible when we come together with a common goal. We plan to continue to lead projects that not only make Peterson more inviting but also preserve its character and well-being for future generations.
As we move forward, ready to tackle new projects and dreams, we’re inspired by the energy and dedication of our volunteers, all united in building a promising future for Peterson.
