Overview
The Peterson Museum, initially established to preserve Peterson's legacy, faced a space crunch due to its ever-growing collection of artifacts. This pressing need for additional display space led to the conceptualization of a second annex.
Spearheaded by the Friends of Peterson and John Erickson, a successful fundraising campaign raised $72,000, drawing contributions from local philanthropists, as well as former students and staff of the school district.
However, escalating costs necessitated an additional $50,000. This challenge was creatively met through collaboration with Fillmore County Sentence to Serve, resulting in the efficient construction of the second annex. This partnership not only facilitated the annex's construction but also enabled the refurbishment of the original school trophy cases and the incorporation of new display elements.
Completed with a deep sense of community and commitment to historical preservation, the project significantly expanded the museum's capacity to showcase its rich collection. The second annex focuses on Peterson School District 232, celebrating its history, former students, activities, and staff members.
